Medical Admission: Modi government's seal on 27 percent reservation for OBC and 10 percent for EWS category in All India quota, the decision will be implemented from this session


The Modi government has approved the decision to give 27 percent reservation to OBC category and 10 percent to EWS category under All India quota in medical education.  Both the sections will get the benefit of reservation from this session.  The government has said that about 5,550 students from Other Backward Classes/Economically Weaker Sections will be benefitted by the decision, committed to provide due reservation to the backward, economically weaker sections.

Giving details of the decision, PM Modi said, "Our government has decided to provide 27 per cent reservation for OBCs and 10 per cent for economically weaker sections in the All India Quota Scheme for UG and PG medical/dental courses from the current academic year."  Historical decision taken.  This will create a new paradigm of social justice in our country.


In a statement issued by the Union Health Ministry, it was said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a meeting held on Monday had directed that the concerned Central Ministries should find an effective solution to this long-pending issue.


Now from the academic session 2021-22 itself, OBC category will get 27 percent and Economically Weaker (EWS) category will get 10 percent reservation under All India Quota in MBBS / MDS / MS / Diploma / MDS courses.  At present about 15 per cent UG, 50 per cent PG medical seats are managed by the state governments under All India quota.

In this, seats are reserved for SC and ST, but not for OBC.  There was a demand for a long time by the medical students of OBC category to solve this issue.

On Wednesday, under the leadership of Union Labor Minister Bhupendra Yadav, Union Ministers and MPs of OBC category, demanding to implement All India Quota for Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in admission to medical colleges under the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET).  A memorandum was submitted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.



Apart from Yadav, those who submitted the memorandum to Modi included Union Steel Minister RCP Singh, Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Anupriya Patel, MPs Ramnath Thakur, Ganesh Singh, Sakaldeep Rajbhar, Jaiprakash Nishad and Surendra Nagar.  In the memorandum, there was a demand to implement central quota for OBC category in the NEET examination.  Patel told that Shri Modi has assured full justice to the promising youth of OBC category.
